Memorial Day is a time to honor those who serve and remember those who have passed in war. Sadly this time of year has also become a key opportunity for scammers. Ploys target those who are serving or have served their nation, especially elderly veterans, their families and individuals hoping to support patriotic causes. BBB is urging consumers and donors to be on the lookout for deals that seem too good to be true, and for disreputable charities.

Better Business Bureau Cautions Consumers to Watch Out for Scammers in Wake of the Boston Marathon Attack

CHICAGO, IL – April 16, 2013 – Charity scammers strike after tragedies, and at least one poorly-conceived charity scam has already emerged in the wake of the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon yesterday. The Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB) is alerting consumers of the possibility of phony charity solicitations, supposedly on behalf of the families of victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.
